My name is Davery. I am seven years old and in second grade at Charlotte Lab School. I began swimming at Charlotte Aquatics when I was 14 months old. When I am not swimming, I like to have friends come over, play tag, and read. My favorite book series is Harry Potter. My favorite stroke to swim is the back crawl/backstroke. I’m also really good at floating like my Gran-Gran. My favorite memory of Charlotte Aquatics is swimming with Mr. Mike because he is so funny! I am also very excited to receive my trophy. Learning to swim has changed my life because I can have more fun. I can swim in the deep-end and jump off the diving board at our neighborhood pool. Thank you, Charlotte Aquatics!
Parent Note: As a parent, it was very important for our son to be safe around water, and develop a healthy respect for it. Over the years, he has not only learned to swim, but he has learned to take direction and listen well, support his peers, and reach a huge, long-term goal. Completing level six has been something he has talked about for years. It feels good to see my child exhibit dedication, tenacity, and persistence. The coaches have been supportive and encouraging… and funny. We are grateful to Charlotte Aquatics!
Hi, My name is Matthew and I’m 8 years old. I’m in second grade at St. Gabriel Catholic School and when I’m not swimming I am playing baseball, rock climbing or fishing!! My favorite stroke is the front crawl and I love swinging on the rope. The best part of Charlotte Aquatics are the instructors especially Ms. Katie. She makes going to swim so much fun!! And Ms. Gigi makes me laugh all the time too! Learning how to swim was so important to me because I spend so much time at the pool and Lake Norman and I love water sports. My mom and dad never worry now because I’ve become such a strong swimmer thanks to my lessons! I have really loved learning all of the strokes and will miss the instructors at Charlotte Aquatics. Thank you for teaching me to Swim Like a Fish!!!
My name is Rhea and I am a first grader at Trinity Episcopal. I have been swimming at Charlotte Aquatics since I was 1 year old. I have loved all of my coaches over the years but especially Coach Gigi for pushing me through until the end. My favorite memory is recently when Coach Mike sub for Coach Gigi and made the lesson fun – I never realized the butterfly could be so interesting. I would say I like all the strokes now that I have learned to do them. I keep all of my patches with my swim team ribbons, thanks to Charlotte Aquatics I have a few! When I am not swimming, I like to do gymnastics, play soccer, go to the beach, and do arts and crafts.
Parent Note: We have had such a wonderful experience at Charlotte Aquatics. It was nice to develop a relationship with the coaches and staff through the years, always making us feel that they had Rhea’s best interest in mind. Also as a parent, I was proud to see Rhea do her first summer of swim team, which wouldn’t have been possible without the coaches at Charlotte Aquatics. Big thanks to you all!
Richard is 5 and a half years old and in Kindergarten at Beverly Woods Elementary School. He has been at Charlotte Aquatics since he was 2 and a half years old. Richard loves to dive and his favorite stroke is the butterfly. He has three older siblings and has grown up watching their sporting events. At age 2 after watching his sister’s swim meet, he would try to do the backstroke in our garden tub. This natural love of the water coupled with having a pool in our backyard led me to enroll Richard in lessons. We have had Ms. Deborah, Ms. Gigi and Ms. Katie plus several other wonderful teachers in our time at Charlotte Aquatics. Richard was able to swim for Olde Georgetowne swim team for the past two summers and loves being around his sister and the older swimmers. If Richard could spend everyday swimming, he would. His favorite memories of CA was the brick retrieval, rope swinging and earning his level 6 trophy. I’m thankful that Richard knows how to swim and be safe around water. Thank you Charlotte Aquatics for that peace of mind!
My name is Sarah and I am 10 yrs. old and love everything that is fun. I am learning to play the piano and my passion is to be a Gymnast. I always like to swim and play in the water with my friends. I also enjoy biking. Swimming has made me a confident person. I love Charlotte Aquatics and all my teachers who made my swimming lessons fun. I like Front Crawl the best. My favorite memories were the times when I got my certificates of achievement after every level and when my teachers and family cheered for me. My family is proud of me and my patches and preserved them for my future memories.
Parent Note: Sarah is a very active child and will not miss an opportunity to have fun. She always liked to play in water and the pool. The swimming lessons definitely made her a more confident swimmer. Charlotte Aquatics proved to be a great place to learn swimming and we are thankful to her teachers who made it happen. We are proud of Sarah and love to see her ‘Swim like a Fish!’
